To: Climate Change Info Mailing List <climate-l@lists.iisd.ca>
Dear Colleagues,
To celebrate World Water Day on March 22, the Water Policy Programme at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) has released a variety of new content, including two new reports.
The first report is entitled, ‘Adaptation to climate change in water, sanitation and hygiene – assessing risks, appraising options in Africa’.
It is available here: http://www.odi.org.uk/publications/8154-climate-change-adaptation-wash-water-sanitation
· It presents the findings of research into the risks to delivery of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) results posed by climate change in Africa, drawing on rapid case study reviews of WASH programming in Malawi, Sierra Leone and Tanzania.
The second report is entitled, ‘The economics of climate change adaptation in Africa’s water sector: a review and a way forward’.
It is available here: http://www.odi.org.uk/publications/8151-economics-climate-change-adaptation-africas-water-sector-review-way-forward
· It reviews adaptation cost estimates and methodologies for the water sector in Africa, including discussion on the cascade of climatic and socio-economic uncertainties and assumptions that underlie the planning of context-specific adaptation responses.
We have also released a new blog by Roger Calow, Head of the Water Policy Programme, entitled, ‘World Water Day theme ignores the ‘nuts and bolts’ of progress’
It is available here: http://www.odi.org.uk/opinion/8288-world-water-day-roger-calow-africa-nexus-land-energy
Finally, we hosted an event in London on Mar. 21 entitled, ‘Africa’s ‘hidden water’: can it secure agricultural growth and food security?’. Full video coverage of the event will be available for download by Mar. 26 here: http://www.odi.org.uk/events/3871-world-water-day-groundwater-food-security
Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have questions or comments on any of this content. We gratefully acknowledge funding support from DFID for the production of this work.
Thank you very much and best regards,
**Apologies for cross postings**
